Moha (Obsession) - Arishadvarga

Post a Comment

Moha, the obsession is the fourth of the Arishadvarga, the set of six enemies.

Moha means obsession and it is a state of extreme Kama (desire), a delusory emotional attachment where one reaches a stage of attaining the desired object at any cost. If the desire is legit and can be satisfied, then there is nothing like Moha, for example loving somebody and succeeding in making the same person as the life partner.

Moha could become a source of trouble and misery if the desire is immoral, illegitimate or unachievable such as coveting someone else’s property, lusting for someone else’s spouse, craving to possess something that is not affordable, etc.

Mahatma Gandhi says, “The world has enough for everyone’s need, but not enough for everyone’s greed”.

However, the obsession (Moha) to achieve, deliver high-quality work, attain perfection, provide customer satisfaction, etc., bring out one’s creativity to the fore, push one’s capabilities and limits to the hilt, and experience ecstasy when the desired goal is realised.
